Trade the setup, not a dollar target
Deciding "I'd be happy with $100 today" is the trap. The market won't hand you an exact number daily. Trade the setup, not a quota — and the money follows patience and discipline.
Trading for a dollar amount is the mistake; trade for a setup instead. Flow: shooting for "$100 today" means you're trading for a number, and the market won't give you an exact amount every day. Chasing a quota forces trades that aren't there. "If y'all play this game long enough, the money will come — you just have to be patient and disciplined."
A quota forces bad trades
The moment you need the market to pay you a set amount today, you'll take marginal setups to hit the number — and forcing trades is exactly how the number goes negative. Anchor on the setup instead: take the trades that meet your criteria, skip the ones that don't, and let the daily P&L be whatever it is. Over a long enough stretch, disciplined setup-trading pays; quota-chasing doesn't.
