Know what your company actually does — and what sector it's in
A lot of people own tickers without knowing what the company even does. Flow: know whether it's tech, healthcare, or energy — because sector and macro events move that stock.
Don't own a ticker without knowing what the company actually does and what sector it's in. Flow's point: tech, healthcare, and energy names each move on different events. If you hold an oil company like Exxon or Chevron but don't realize it's oil-based, you won't know which supply-and-demand headlines to watch — so you're caught off guard when the sector moves.
Sector tells you what to watch
Every stock lives inside a sector, and sectors move on their own drivers — energy on oil supply and demand, tech on rates and AI spend, healthcare on regulation and approvals. Knowing your company's sector tells you which headlines matter and which are noise. Take energy: when supply is constrained, prices tend to rise; when supply opens back up, they tend to fall. If you don't know Exxon and Chevron are oil companies, none of that is on your radar. Know what you own, and you're prepared instead of surprised.
