Never trade off a tip: why you do your own research first
Your coworker, your girl at the salon, whoever — a tip isn't a reason to buy. Flow's rule: you don't know their context, their size, or if they even own it. Do your own research.
Never put your hard-earned money into a stock just because someone told you to. Flow's point: your coworker at the job, your girlfriend at the salon, whoever — when they say "I just bought this," you don't know the context of why they bought it, how much they actually put in, or whether they even bought it at all versus just repeating what someone else said. Do your own research before a single dollar goes in.
A tip is not a thesis
The problem with acting on what somebody tells you isn't that they're lying — it's that you're missing everything that matters. You don't know their time horizon, their position size, their entry, or their reason. You don't even know if the tip is theirs or thirdhand. "You never want to put your hard-earned money into what somebody else said." If you can't explain why you own it, you don't own it — the tip does. Flow's fix is boring and it works: do the research yourself first.
