YNAB

A budgeting app built around giving every dollar a job. It matches the first question in YOUR FIRST $500 almost word for word.

What it is

YNAB (You Need A Budget) is a subscription budgeting app. You assign every dollar you have to a category, including investing, and adjust as life happens. It links to bank accounts or runs manually.

How Flow uses it

No experience claim yet. Flow's own rule is simpler and free: rent money, light-bill money, and the emergency stash never touch the market. YNAB is one way to make that rule visible every payday. If Flow adopts it, this page will get his walkthrough.

No Heavy Returns video on this tool yet. When Flow reviews it, the video lands here first.

Who it fits

  • You keep meaning to invest and the money is gone before payday ends.
  • You want the "next payday" step in YOUR FIRST $500 to happen automatically.
  • You like seeing the plan, not just the balance.

Limits

  • It is a paid subscription. A spreadsheet does the same job if you will actually open it.
  • It takes a few weeks to feel natural. Most people quit in week two.
  • Budgeting does not make money. It protects the money that investing needs.

Use it with the guide

  1. Answer question one in YOUR FIRST $500: can I afford to invest this money?
  2. Give your investing dollars a category before you download anything.
  3. Trial it for one full pay cycle before you decide.
