What's up HEAVY HITTERS?
Long week ahead. Let me walk you through it.
Kevin Warsh got confirmed as Fed Chair. For anybody just tuning in, Warsh ran with the Fed before. Hawkish lean. Sees inflation risk where Powell saw room to cut.
Translation. Rate cut timeline just got slower. Don't expect July anymore. Maybe September, maybe later. Dollar stronger near term. Growth names take a breath. Value rotation gets a little more juice.
We watch what he says, not what he does. First speech tells us everything. I'll be in the Discord live the day he speaks.
Four names. Three days. All of it tells us where the consumer, the AI trade, and middle America are sitting right now.
| Day | Ticker | When | What it tells us |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tue 5/19 | HD | Before open | The consumer |
| Wed 5/20 | NVDA | After hours | The AI trade |
| Thu 5/21 | WMT | Before open | Lower-income America |
| Thu 5/21 | INTU | After close | Small business + middle class |
Street looking for $3.40 to $3.42 EPS on $41.6B revenue. Comp sales expected flat to slightly negative. Watch the Pro vs DIY split, big-ticket discretionary spend (kitchens, decks, additions), and the guidance tone. HD historically beats then lowers guidance into the back half. That combo gets punished every time. Cautious language reads as the consumer slowing.
HD around $370. Implied move 3 to 4 percent. Break of $355 on a guidance cut means the housing fix-up trade is done. Hold $370 with confidence and the consumer is still moving.
Most important print of the week. Maybe the quarter. Revenue $78 to $80B. EPS $1.70 to $1.75 adj. Watch Blackwell demand, hyperscaler AI CAPEX, gross margins, and forward guidance. Stock is up 20 percent+ off April lows on hope. A beat is the expectation now. Options pricing a 7 to 9 percent move. Crush + raise = tech rips. Crush + soft hyperscaler guide = sells off anyway. It's about Jensen's language on the call, not the press release.
Not pre-positioning. Risk-reward is bad for fresh exposure. Let the print happen. Watch first 30 minutes after-hours. Trade the reaction, not the prediction.
The canary. 90 percent of America walks through Walmart monthly. Watch grocery trends (recession-proof line), basket-size inflation, discretionary apparel and electronics, and lower-income consumer behavior. Read across to HD. Both confirming consumer caution means the market gets defensive fast. Bonds rally, defensives outperform. WMT contradicting HD gives us the soft-landing story another quarter.
Cleanest macro print of the week. I care less about the number and more about management's language on back-to-school and the bottom of their income mix. That's the tell for June and July.
Sneaky important. Owns more of small business than people realize. QuickBooks + TurboTax + Credit Karma + Mailchimp. Four products reading the small-business and middle-class wallet from four angles. Watch QuickBooks (hiring/payroll canary), TurboTax post-tax-season strength, AI integration revenue from Intuit Assist, and Credit Karma trends (where consumer credit is bending).
Multiple is 30+ forward earnings. They have to be perfect. Watch the AI Assist revenue line. Real number = story is real. Footnote = multiple deflates.
HD tells us the consumer. NVDA tells us the AI trade. WMT confirms or denies the consumer story. INTU tells us small business. Stack the four by Friday morning, you have the cleanest read on where this market actually sits. Stay in the Discord. I'll be calling levels live.
JUNE 12 SpaceX goes public on Nasdaq. Ticker SPCX. Word came down they're splitting it 5 to 1 before the IPO. More shares at a lower price each. Same total ownership of the same company. Just sliced thinner.
Initial Public Offering. A private company opens its doors to the public market for the first time. Before, only founders, employees, and big private investors owned shares. After, anybody with a brokerage account can buy. The company gets cash to grow. Early investors get a way to sell their stake. Opening day price is set by the company and its banks the night before. After that the market takes over.
Picture a pizza. Cut into 4 slices, each slice is 25 percent. Same pizza cut into 20 slices, each slice is 5 percent. The pizza did not change. The slices got smaller and cheaper. That's a split. 5 for 1 means every 1 share becomes 5 shares, each worth one fifth the price. Your total ownership stays the same. The point is access. Somebody with 200 bucks can still own a piece.
For SpaceX, the split means the IPO price will be friendlier to retail. You won't need to drop 800 plus to own one share. That changes how many of y'all can get in on day one. We're gonna cover it live.
This week we pulled a name from the Heavy Returns Discord.
Everybody else, keep showing up in chat. Keep posting your charts. Keep asking real questions. Next pull is next Sunday. Same way.
Wednesday, May 20 • 7:00 to 8:30 PM CT
This week we cover three things.
Financial statements. The income statement and the balance sheet. How to read what a company actually earns and what it actually owns.
Options. Buying vs selling. When to be the buyer, when to be the seller, and what most retail traders get wrong on both sides. Then the Greeks. Delta, Gamma, Theta, Vega. The four numbers that explain why your option moves the way it does.
Technical analysis, light touch. Support. Resistance. VWAP. Volume. The handful of tools you'll actually use. Not the 30 indicators that clutter a chart and confuse you.
Live on Zoom. Recording goes to registered attendees. Bring your watchlist.
The Heavy Returns Show launches on YouTube soon. Long form. Earnings breakdowns. Market outlook. Guest sit-downs. Build-in-public from the journey.
Subscribe before we drop episode one so it hits you first.
